GRO design and Tim modelmakers have joined forces to update table football with 11 - the beautiful game, named after the number of players on each side and the common expression 'the beautiful game' used to describe football or soccer depending on which continent you come from.

The model of the football table incorporates a number of lighting effects. This required not only finding the best lighting solution, but also writing software to enhance the experience of playing the game - showing the winning goal or restarting the game.

You're invited to road test '11' and test your skillz at the debut in Milan next week.

Hard Hat Tour of Rijksmuseum

The main building of the Rijksmuseum has been closed since December 2003 to the public. Much of what has been built in the past 50 years, is now extracted. Now the original layout of the building has been restored, bringing Pierre Cuypers's architectonic concept back to life. Light and air are back in the museum after the removal of the gallery spaces that once filled the atriums. We saw arches, windows, and original decorations that were once covered by walls and ceilings.

Unfortunately we were not allowed to take photographs inside the building. Here are some links for you to see and read more:

Rotterdam

You will see in the pictures the Netherlands Architecture Institute (NAi), museum of architecture. The building is situated at the edge of the Museumpark in the center of Rotterdam and was designed by Jo Coenen. The NAI stores important architecture archives and collections, and makes them accessible to the public.

Take a look at the Sonneveld House which stands adjacent to the NAi on the corner of Jongkindstraat and Rochussenstraat. Built in the early nineteen thirties, it is one of the best-preserved houses in the Nieuwe Bouwen style, the Dutch branch of the International School of Modernism. It was designed by the architecture firm of Brinkman & Van der Vlugt. We were able to see what it was like to live in a hypermodern home in 1933.

The Erasmusbrug is a cable stayed bridge across the Nieuwe Maas river, linking the northern and southern halves of the city of Rotterdam, Netherlands. It was designed by Ben van Berkel and completed in 1996. The 808 metre long bridge has a 139 metre-high asymmetrical pylon, earning the bridge its nickname of "The Swan".

Designed by Renzo Piano Building Workshop, the KPN Telecom building stands at the end of the Erasmusbrug. The section that faces the city and the Erasmus Bridge is the most interesting portion of the building. The façade is tilted and has a slanted pillar from the ground going into the center of the façade. It is clad with a green curtain wall system that is complemented by green lights distributed evenly over the glass façade. The lights work as a giant billboard and the patterns they create are easiest to see at night time or on an overcast day. These patterns change and move throughout the day.

Would you like to live in the Kubuswoning (Cubic Houses)? Designed by Piet Blom in 1984 they sit on top of a pedestrian bridge over a busy street. The cubes are tilted and sit on hexagon-shaped pole structures. The interior living space is split into three levels. The triangle-shaped lower level contains the living room and kitchen. The middle level contains the sleeping area and a bathroom, while the top level, also in a triangular shape, is used as either an extra bedroom or a living space.

Fried Green Apples...

From iPush, "We love Apple. Apple knows more about "clean" design than anybody, right? So why do Macs, iPods, iBooks and the rest of their product range contain hazardous substances that other companies have abandoned? A cutting edge company shouldn't be cutting lives short by exposing children in China and India to dangerous chemicals. That's why we Apple fans need to demand a new, cool product: a greener Apple."
